I'm still obsessing thinking about the little japanese dress. Yesterday I went into town with the one goal of buying a frock for a black-tie dinner next weekend. After four stores, about 40 dresses and spiralling disgust at the state of my thighs under fluorescent lights I did what any girl would do....headed straight for Liberty's third floor. I wandered around for awhile flicking through magazines and looking at yarn until my equilibrium returned.
I was looking for some finer cotton for the dress and ended up with some Rowan Cashcotton in pale green and Jaeger Aqua Cotton in pale lavender. See swatches both knitted on 3.25mm needles below for a comparison.
The cashcotton is so nice and soft. If I hadn't sworn never, ever to attempt a garment for myself ever again I would definitely like to have a nice jumper made out of this. Did I mention its really soft?
But it doesn't really show up the detail of the rib very well and I think the sheen of the Aqua cotton is really nice too. And it will knit up faster. So we have a winner! Now I need to translate the final measurements which are the only thing in English on the diagram to the gauge of this swatch.
Not much light here today - we are having a greyish bank holiday weekend.

if you send me a copy of the pattern, i'll see if i can work it out for you (unless you want the challenge of doing it yourself. you seem to be doing just fine so far!) whatever japanese i can't read, my colleagues can usually help decipher...

Wow you're so disciplined with your swatches! I'm still labouring under the curse of the green cardigan...

I'm really impressed - both with the wool you've chosed and the 3 swatches you've done to make sure your pattern works. I'm trying to do this with quilting - in the long run I'm sure better results are obtained.
Lucky you going to Liberty's - I love that store and just walk around going ohhh and ahhh at everything. And yes I do get a few funny looks....
